ProtoRun — Privacy Policy

An offline-first lab protocol timer and notebook.

Last updated: July 26, 2026

This policy describes exactly what the ProtoRun app does with your data. It is written to match the app's actual behaviour and to accompany the Google Play Data Safety section.

The short version

✓No account, no login, no server.
✓No internet permission — the app cannot send your data over a network.
✓Everything you enter stays on your device.
✓The only way data leaves is a backup you export yourself.

No account, no server

ProtoRun has no user accounts and connects to no backend. It does not request the Android INTERNET permission, so the operating system prevents it from sending your data anywhere over a network.

Your data stays on your device

Everything you enter — protocols, runs, notes, and photos — is stored only in a local database and photo folder on your device. The only way data leaves is a backup you export yourself and choose where to send (for example, your own cloud drive, email, or a file transfer). The app never does this automatically.

What the app stores (on your device only)

We do not collect or share data

The developer has no servers and receives nothing. There is no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDK in the app, and no tracking across apps or websites.

Photos and location

Photos are kept in the app's private storage. When you attach a photo from the camera or gallery, the app removes GPS/location EXIF tags from its stored copy, so a saved photo does not reveal where it was taken.

Cloud backup is disabled

Android's automatic cloud backup is turned off for this app, and explicit rules exclude the database, files, and preferences. Your lab data is not uploaded to Google's backup servers.

Permissions and why

The app does not request internet, location, contacts, or microphone. It can open your device's battery-optimisation settings so you can exempt it for long timers, but it holds no special battery-exemption permission.

Your control

Delete any run (it goes to Trash for 30 days, or delete it immediately). Export your data at any time. Uninstalling the app removes all of its local data from your device.

Children

ProtoRun is a professional laboratory tool intended for researchers and students. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone.
